Just like everyone else I know who dreams to do something BIG in life, I had a desire to do something awesome since childhood. And Maybe I did it, maybe I didn’t. But whatever I did / achieved leaves me in a very comfortable and happy state of mind today and that’s what matters.
So it all started when I got my first Computer at the age of 13, beginning of 8th standard to be precise. My parents gifted me a computer and the very same day I deleted its sound card file by mistake. And Scared as hell, I did not want to tell my parents that I just screwed up the Rs 45,000 they spent on my computer. It seemed one of the biggest blunders of my life so I spent whole day till late night trying to figure out what exactly went wrong and finally Vola! I fixed it. It was a proud moment that gave me a sense of achievement and I really can’t express how it felt that time. That was the eureka moment for me from where I developed a sense of love for computers.
After finally getting over one of the scariest nights and of the proudest ones, I decided to learn how this computer was made actually. But honestly I had no idea how to proceed. I was from a normal Indian Middle class family and no one to guide. I enquired a little and there were some institutes like Aptech, Jetking offering Certified Hardware Engineer Course for anywhere between INR 30,000 – 50,000 and just after my parents spent around Rs 45,000 on my computer, I did not want to ask them for spending more on something even I did not know much about. Not like they would not do it, but I did not want them to do it.
But I was a stubborn kid and that was a blessing in disguise.
I started looking for some interesting ways on how can I learn online and finally during this period, 2 months summer vacation (like every school in North India) came and it was the time for me to learn computers completely. I had to be innovative enough to come out with a way to learn “How Computers Work and How can I Make Them”. Finally I came up with an interesting strategy. There were a lot of cyber cafes near my place where they used to assemble computers. So I thought, why not just go there and learn stuff. But that wasn’t that simple. Why will anyone keep a 13 year old kid in their premises for whole day?
Again, running over the thoughts I picked up a few café’s and figured out only 2 had Air conditioner in them. It was peak summer in Delhi having around 44 degree celcuius temperature and working in a decent place was a must for me. I approached the owner of the place asking – “Hi Sir, Can I do Internship here? I don’t want a Stipend, I just want to learn how computers are made.”
I had no idea how the person will react but I had to give it a try. And luckily the person agreed.
For the next 2 months, I learn’t all aspects of computers there, how to assemble them, what’s the complete system flow etc but that was not all. I even learn’t motherboard repairing, soldering of capacitors on the motherboard and it was one of the things I developed love for. I loved computers and I knew a lot about them.
But again, my vacations ended. I went back to school but I kept exploring the same. Learn’t DOS, HTML and all the stuff I could without internet (just by reading books).
Finally I gave my 10th class boards and to check the results, my parents got my first Internet connection at my place.
Before that I had no internet connection because “Ghar pe Internet Hai to Bachha Bigad Jayega” mentality. I am sure a lot of people of my age could relate to it 😛
So I got my internet connection, I checked my Board Result and I got 90.4%, my parents were happy, I was happy but again there was a question that came in my mind.
“How did they make this CBSE website, How can I make my own”?
And Followed by that I started a blog on WordPress and Blogspot and within a couple of weeks I understood the basics and got my First domain and Web Hosting for my blog. I got Rs 500 as my monthly pocket money, out of which I spend Rs 250 on web hosting and Rs 100 on a .in domain.
So within 2-3 weeks, I learn’t all about wordpress (which I could on my own at that time), got my Website up and Running and yes, by Spending Rs 350 from my pocket money, I became a CEO and in my view and Entrepreneur! 😀
Though the definition has changed a lot for me over time with my learnings and it’s a beautiful journey but I still cherish the thought of how it all started.
I just love it..
Lesson: If you really want to achieve it, you will figure out a way to do that and you don’t need any support for that. BELIEVE in YOURSELF, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WISH TO DO, YOU CAN BE ANYTHING YOU WANT.
I became a CEO and Entrepreneur at 15 (in my own world)
